Anodal tDCS over The Right Primary Somatosensory Cortex Increases Cough Reflex Sensitivity: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Crossover Trial

چکیده

Background The cough reflex is a protective of the human body. Increases or decreases in sensitivity may be related to chronic cough, aspiration pneumonia, and/or other diseases. right primary somatosensory cortex (RS1) main activation center for urge-to-cough. Here, we discuss effects transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) RS1 on and We also explored role left dorsolateral prefrontal (lDLPFC) using tDCS. Methods Twenty-four healthy young adults completed this pilot randomized controlled crossover experiment. Each person was tested three times receiving, random order, anodal tDCS lDLPFC sham stimulation. intensity set 2 mA, time 30 min, interval between any two stimuli at least one week. After each intervention, citric acid challenge test immediately assessed urge-to-cough sensitivity. Results thresholds, expressed as LogC 5 , were significantly reduced after compared stimulation, accompanied by increased (Urge-to-cough log-log slope: 1.19±0.40 point·L·g −1 versus 0.92±0.33 p=0.001), but threshold did not change significantly. There no significant changes Conclusion Anodal can increase reduce threshold. reflex, well underlying mechanisms driving those effects, should further.

Thalamocortical connections of the primary somatosensory cortex

Although each subdivision of primary somatosensory cortex (SI) receives dense input from the thalamus, but the exact location and type of information that the fibers convey have not been identified yet. In the present study, the exact source of thalamocortical fibers to areas 2 and 3b was investigated using tract-tracing techniques. Following injection of tracer into area 3b, labeled neurons ...

Anodal tDCS over the Primary Motor Cortex Facilitates Long-Term Memory Formation Reflecting Use-Dependent Plasticity

Previous research suggests that anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the primary motor cortex (M1) modulates NMDA receptor dependent processes that mediate synaptic plasticity. Here we test this proposal by applying anodal versus sham tDCS while subjects practiced to flex the thumb as fast as possible (ballistic movements). Repetitive practice of this task has been shown t...

Modulation of inhibitory control by prefrontal anodal tDCS: A crossover double-blind sham-controlled fMRI study

Prefrontal anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been proposed as a potential approach to improve inhibitory control performance. The functional consequences of tDCS during inhibition tasks remain, however, largely unresolved. We addressed this question by analyzing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) recorded while participants completed a Go/NoGo task after right-...

Anodal tDCS targeting the right orbitofrontal cortex enhances facial expression recognition.

The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) has been implicated in the capacity to accurately recognise facial expressions. The aim of the current study was to determine if anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) targeting the right OFC in healthy adults would enhance facial expression recognition, compared with a sham condition. Across two counterbalanced sessions of tDCS (i.e. anodal and sha...
